What is E-Stamping?
Electronic Stamping, also known as E-stamping, is a digital mode for paying non-judicial stamp duty in India. It offers an alternative to traditional physical stamp paper with greater security and benefits the acquiring process entirely online. Govt first brought it in July 2013, to address the issue of counterfeit stamp papers and overhaul the stamp duty payment system.
As stated earlier, E-Stamping offers an electronic method to purchase non-judicial stamps. Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL) has been designated as Central Record Keeping Agency (CRA) to manage the entire e-stamping system. Users can apply with DigiLawyer, or register on SHCIL’s platform. User are required to provide details of their document, pay stamp duty, and download an e-stamp certificate. This certificate contains a unique identification number (UIN) that serves as proof of payment and can later be used to verify the authenticity of the document.

- Visit the SHCIL website at https://www.stockholding.com/. Click on “Products and Services’, choose ‘e-Stamp services’ and then select ‘e-Stamping’.
SHCIL’s shows the list of all states currently allowing the e-stamping facility, it will be shown on the website.
- Navigate to Product & Services dropdown, then click on e-services & Government Business and then click on e-stamping option
- Now Click on Citizen Login if you are either an Individual or a Business
- Now you will see a Login Page, most likely you don’t have a User Id, so worry not. Just Click on the Register Now or Guest Login to proceed with the process
- Click on the Register Now and you will get directed to the Registration form
- You will have to fill in this form, and keep your PAN, DOB & a security question you can remember handy.
- Next you need to verify your phone number
- Once you verify your mobile number, you will be redirected to Login Page, here enter the User ID and Password that we set during registration process.
- Enter your User ID again
- Enter your Password and Security Question.
- Select “Stamp Duty Payment” and the applicable State from the Dropdown option.
- Select “Self-Printing of e-Stamping Certificate and then select Stamp Duty Type.
- Fill all the Mandatory Details related to your Document.
- Now review your details and select your payment method.
- Your will redirected to Payment page, here enter payment details and proceed with the payment.
On-Successful Payment, you will be able to download your E-Stamp Certificate and with that our E-stamping is process is done.
