Over 2 lakh challans resolved with DigiLawyer. Your pending challan could be next!

What Is the National Lok Adalat?

The National Lok Adalat is a one-day legal settlement drive organised by NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) about four times a year across all states in India. It runs under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, which means the decisions made there have the same legal value as a civil court order.

For drivers, it’s one of the easiest ways to clear pending compoundable traffic challans. You can settle them in a single day, often at a reduced amount, without having to make multiple court visits.

What Happens at the Venue? The Settlement Process

1. Verification: The help desk confirms your challan is eligible and your token/documents are in order.

2. The Hearing: A judge or mediator reviews your case. For most compoundable offences, fines are reduced by 50% to 90% depending on the number of challans, the age of the challan, and whether your documents (PUC, insurance) are currently valid.

3. Settlement Payment: Once the reduced amount is agreed, you pay at the counter via UPI, debit/credit card, or cash. You receive a court-stamped receipt.

4. Case Closure: The challan is marked as settled on the traffic police portal and the Vahan database. The matter is legally closed. The Lok Adalat award is final ,no appeal lies against it.

Typical Visit Time: 4-6 hours if attending in person. DigiLawyer can represent your case so you do not need to be present.

How Much Reduction Can You Expect?

Offence Type

Typical Reduction at Lok Adalat

Old single challan (helmet, parking, PUC)

50%–70% reduction

Bulk challans (multiple pending)

60%–90% reduction

Camera/speed challan with updated PUC/insurance

50% reduction

Challans over 2 years old

Up to 90% reduction in some states

Commercial vehicle challans

Settled at standard rates, case by case

Reductions are not guaranteed and depend on state policy, bench discretion, and documentation. These figures are based on prior Lok Adalat outcomes across Delhi, Haryana, and UP.

Why You Should Act Before March 14, 2026

  • Unpaid challans block RC transfers, insurance renewals, and vehicle fitness certificates via the Vahan database.
  • Pending challans do not expire ,fines accumulate and can attract court summons.
  • Delhi token slots fill within minutes of opening. Missing the March 9–11 window means waiting until the next National Lok Adalat (May 2026).
  • Noida walk-in queues get long. Arriving late means your case may not be heard that day.
  • The Lok Adalat award is final and legally binding ,it permanently closes the case.

Pan-India Coverage, Other States

The March 14, 2026 National Lok Adalat is not limited to Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida. It is held simultaneously across all states and union territories under NALSA's mandate. Citizens in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Chandigarh, and every other state can settle their pending compoundable traffic challans on the same date at their respective District Court Complexes.

  • Check your state: Visit your State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) portal for local venue, token/booking process, and eligibility cutoffs
  • General rule: Most states outside Delhi follow a walk-in or local token system ,online pre-booking like Delhi is the exception
  • Timing: Lok Adalats typically run 10:00 AM ,4:00 PM. Arrive early for best results

Q: What happens if I miss the March 2026 Lok Adalat?

A: The next opportunity will be the 2nd National Lok Adalat of 2026, expected in May 2026 (exact date to be notified by NALSA). In the interim, you may explore Evening Court proceedings in Delhi (5 PM ,7 PM on working days) where pending challans can also be settled, though without the same scale of reductions.

Q: My challan does not show on the Virtual Court portal. Can I still attend Lok Adalat?

A: If your challan is not appearing on the Virtual Court portal, it may not qualify for the standard Lok Adalat window. Contact DigiLawyer (8750871493), our team can verify the challan status across multiple portals and determine the best available settlement route, including Evening Court if needed.

Q: Can I settle challans for a commercial vehicle or company-registered vehicle?
