NOTE:

PUC challans. PUC-related challans in Delhi are often non-compoundable and typically need a full court hearing, so they don't usually settle through the standard Lok Adalat route. If that's your situation, get in touch and we'll talk you through what actually applies. Drop a query at 8178704343. With the "No PUC, No Fuel" rule applying from 1 October across Delhi-NCR, get a valid certificate in any case.

Challans you believe are wrong. Settling at Lok Adalat means accepting the offence for a lower amount, and the booking undertaking bars you from contesting on the Virtual Court portal. If the number plate, location or time is wrong, contest it instead (see the contest section below).

Step-by-Step: How to Prepare for Delhi Lok Adalat: Token Booking Process

Delhi carries one of the heaviest pending-challan loads in the country, which is exactly why the online token system exists in the first place. Walk-ins will not be accepted at any Delhi court complex on Lok Adalat day.

When does token booking open? Based on how the March, May, and July sittings played out this year, the Delhi Traffic Police portal has typically opened token downloads about 5 to 7 days before the actual date. For the postponed Delhi Lok Adalat on 25 October, the token booking window is expected to open somewhere around 19th to 24th October, 2026

Delhi Court Venues for Lok Adalat: 7 Locations are Available

Unlike Uttar Pradesh, where you must go to the district court of the place where the offence happened, Delhi lets you choose the complex while booking. Pick the one nearest to you from the list the portal shows.

Bench availability differs between complexes. If your preferred complex shows no free slot, book another one rather than waiting, because the token window fills quickly.

Parking tip: Court complexes are crowded on Lok Adalat days. Take the metro where you can, and carry your documents in a single folder to move through verification faster.

Your slip names the complex and the forenoon or afternoon slot, so go to that exact complex on 25 October.

Lok Adalat vs Weekend Traffic Court vs Evening Court

Delhi now has different ways to clear a compoundable challan, and the Lok Adalat is only one of them. If you miss the October lok adalat token window, the others are your fallback.

The key trade-off is the undertaking. Booking a Lok Adalat slot means you agree not to contest the same challan on the Virtual Court portal. So settle at Lok Adalat only if you accept the offence and want to close it.

25 October is also a Sunday, which is a regular weekend-court day.

Why Clearing Pending Delhi Challans Matters Right Now

Delhi's challan rules changed several times this year, and the 25 October sitting lands in the middle of that churn. Four developments are worth knowing before you decide to wait.

  • The backlog is huge. Reports put pending challans and camera notices in Delhi above 4.3 crore as of 15 June 2026, The Weekend Traffic Courts that began on 5 July were launched against this backdrop, and Lok Adalat tokens are capped at about 50,000 a day.
  • A 45-day clock was announced. Earlier, the Delhi Chief Minister announced a time-bound digital system: pay or contest within 45 days, or the challan is treated as accepted and payment falls due within 15 days. Contesting in court after a rejected challenge was tied to a 50% deposit.
  • Pollution rules are tightening. From 1 October 2026, the "No PUC, No Fuel" rule applies across Delhi-NCR, so an old PUC problem can now stop you at the petrol pump even if your challan is settled.

Separately, Supreme Court has voiced concern over more than ₹20,000 crore in unpaid traffic challans nationwide and discussed stricter recovery options, including ideas such as linking dues to electricity bills. These are suggestions under consideration, not law. (Full Announcement)

Practitioner guides also warn that unpaid challans can hold up RC transfer, insurance renewal and fitness certificate work through the Vahan database. If you plan to sell, insure or transfer your vehicle this winter, clear the dues first.

Think the Challan Is Wrong? Contest It, Do Not Settle It

Lok Adalat is for people who accept the violation and want a lower, final amount. If the challan itself is wrong, settling closes your options, because the booking undertaking bars you from contesting the same challan on the Virtual Court portal.

Contest instead when:

  • the number plate was misread or the vehicle was elsewhere
  • the location, time or offence does not match what happened
  • you have a duplicate challan for one violation

Delhi vs Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram: Which Process Applies to You?

The Lok Adalat process depends on who issued the challan, not where you live or where the car is registered. A Delhi Police challan follows the Delhi process even if you live in Noida or Gurugram, and a UP or Haryana challan follows that state's process even if you live in Delhi.

Example: Say you live in Gurugram and drive to work in Delhi.

  1. Morning: a camera notice arrives for speeding on the Gurugram side. That is a Haryana challan, so it follows Haryana's offline token process at Gurugram court.
  2. Evening: you jump a red light in Delhi. That is a Delhi challan, so you need the online token from 19 October and a slot at one of the seven Delhi complexes.

You cannot settle the Delhi challan in Gurugram, or the Gurugram one in Delhi. If you hold both kinds, keep two separate document sets and two separate plans.

The important part? Simply showing up on the lok adalat day is not enough. You need to know whether your challan is eligible, how to obtain the required challan slip or token, and what documents to carry.
